Look I found a meme on Postcards From Oblivion! It’s about pronunciation and colloquialisms! You record yourself saying words so everyone can laugh at the way you say them!
Questions:
- Your name and/or username
- Where you’re from
- The following words: Aunt, Roof, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting Image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught, Orange, Coffee, Direction, Naturally, Aluminum, Herbs.
- What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house? [on the night before Halloween?]
- What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
- What do you call gym shoes?
- What do you say to address a group of people?
- What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
- What do you call your grandparents?
- What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
- What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
- What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
Here’s mine! There’s a Babby in it!
If you turn up the sound at the last bit of the video where I start running out of things to say, you’ll get a bonus of Babby’s complainy-pant noise!
Now you do this meme so I can laugh back at you. Or diagnose the meaning behind Babby’s whine-pant.
EDIT: And by “rainshower” I meant “Sunshower” because my brain and my mouth don’t communicate well.
Well done! I think you say car and bar just dandy. Tell your friends to listen to a Bostonian say it and they’ll decide yours is quite normal! 😉 Babby did a fab job of entertaining himself while you memed. I think that was the “I want a change of scenery pant,” but I’m no pant expert. I think they were looking to see who might address a group by saying, “y’all.”
Ah, I would probably say “you guys” or something.
PH thinks it’s a frustration/boredom pant, which is frustrating to ME in the middle of the night!
Re:Bostonian accent – a friend in university used to walk around saying “Cheeeese and BUTTAH” in a Boston accent.
It’s funny, we almost have the same accent and I am from Minneaolis, MN born and raised. You say Car and Bar just like we do and I totally call it pop although I do realize that others call it soda. It will always be pop to me.
Babby is adorable, but I don’t know what that whine is all about!
PH and I have noticed before the similarities between MN and NS accents… I wonder why that is…
i’m with Wombat… it’s an “I’m done with this” pant.
I think you’re right.
I call the wheeled contraption for carrying groceries a ‘shopping trolley’. I’m English. Like you I don’t know what they’re getting at with the toilet paper on a house – I’ve never done that or seen it done. I might do this meme later and you can admire my exotic English idiom (with Irish and kiwi overtones).
Yes, do so!
Well, *I* think you sound perfectly normal, but I’m also Nova Scotian and have heard you speak many times in person, so… 😛
I’ve heard the toilet paper thing called TPing. As in “Tee-Pee-ing”. And I think some areas maybe call it papering? Not sure.
I agree they were seeing who would say “y’all”.
A shopping cart/grocery cart is also called a buggy by many people. Or a basket. (My mom says that sometimes…. Actually, I think she says that all the time. Weird.)
Lastly, and most importantly, Babby is adorable.
That is all.

I LOVED THIS. Once I have a voice and sound less like a man I’ll be posting mine. I definitely have the BC valley-girl accent going on. My husband makes fun of me all the time. Apparently I can’t pronounce “milk” properly. I’ll have to remember to add milk when I do mine.
I didn’t catch a lot of the NS accent from you. My friend in Halifax (who I hope to see when we’re there) would amuse me to NO END when he said “pants” and “garage”. I wonder how many times I can get him to say that before he hurts me.
I’ll have to say those words for my friends and see how they react!
Also, I demand MAN VOICE.
