Today is my due date.
I know that doesn’t mean anything, but still, it’s like “whoa,” you know?
We have an OB appointment today. A couple of weeks ago they talked about stripping my membanes today if I’m dilated at all. Think I should let them do that? The alternative is risking an induction next Monday. I really don’t want to be induced. But perhaps if I just do a lot of hula hooping on the Wii fit…
There’s also the sight detail that while I don’t want to be induced, I’m not big on ending the pregnancy.
Change scares me.
My friend (the same one who painted the clouds in Babby’s room) took some pregnancy pics for me a couple of days ago. Aren’t they lovely?
I’ll just stay pregnant, kthxbai.

I had my membranes stripped with Isaac. It hurts – I’m not going to lie – but it also worked, because within 24 hours labour had started, and at that point I was so. freaking. ready. to be done I didn’t care about a little discomfort. (It only takes a couple of minutes).
I’m still glad I had it done – Isaac weighed over 9 lbs! I’m bloody glad he wasn’t in there any longer!
Have I scared you yet? 😉 Good luck,

I wasn’t sure I wanted to resort to membrane stripping at the time, but in the end was never given the option. If I knew then what I know now, I would have had it done. As you know, Violet was born two weeks passed her due date, so anything that would have helped things along sooner (besides actual induction) would have been cool.

Also, I’m jealous of your pregnancy being almost over.

I’m kinda against interventions of any kind, so… my stand on the stripping thing is not to, at least not yet. And, on that note, WHY would they induce you at 41 weeks??? I don’t get that. Unless it was medically necessary, which is rare, normal pregnancies can safely end anywhere between 37 and 42 weeks. My assvice? Avoid the “cascade of interventions” and don’t consider the medical induction till at least another two weeks.
Okay, shutting up now. 😛 Beautiful photos!

They say they induce at 41 weeks because of some recent recommendations from a something-or-other academy of pediatrics or obstetrics or something. Chances of stillbirth increase in the 42nd week and they don’t like those.
I’m freaked about stillbirth – apparently 2-5% of overdue babies run out of oxygen because the placenta can’t do it for them any more, and being overdue increases risk of C-section because the baby’s head is bigger, so I’ll let them do it, but I’d rather go into labour naturally before next week if I can!

41 weeks does seem early to induce – they normally go to 42 weeks here – but depending on how uncomfortable you are you might be glad of it. When I was starting to go into labour with my second child the midwife offered to do a stretch and sweep. It wasn’t too uncomfortable and stirred things up nicely. I would say worth a try – it’s a pretty low-key intervention as they go. Anyway, best of luck!

Come to think of it, a second-time cervix is a lot easier to stretch than a first-time one.
