I drew a tree for Emotional Umbrella, and you should totally go see if you can figure out which one is mine. Pinkbrain from Mr. Chicken and the Ninja Kitties is going to use her mad art therapy skillz to psychoanalyze all the trees!*
*Art Therapy is a serious discipline and not a party trick, I know, but come on, this is cool!
I’m going to guess that #7 is yours? And Babby is looking SO grown up and OLD!! I can’t believe he’s eating solids already!!!
I know. Where does the time go?
Feel free not to post this if you think I’m cheating by being related to you.
My answer: Tree 5. Reasoning:
– Tree 2 was drawn with a hand on the mouse and an eye on the clock. So unless Babby has taken to MS Paint, no way.
– There are no animals in Tree 8.
– Tree 6 is bright and naive, its optimism marred only by a shadow near the top branches. It doesn’t really strike me as cerebral enough.
– The right-biased Trees 3 and 7 may be eliminated out-of-hand (literally, and laterally).
– Dendritic Tree 4 could have been drawn by a student of psychology, but its sparseness evokes your least favourite season.
– Being at the foot of the valley and inhabited by a dove, Tree 1 suggests introversion and peace. However, the laissez-faire embellishment of the tree does not match the deliberate lines of the bird. Was this designed by committee?
Tree 5 is clearly the most Carol-esque. The owl at its heart represents intellect and a desire for safety. And while the autumn leaves are pretty, they also hint at nostalgia for a lost season. Finally, the detail seems to be there for its own sake rather than as an afterthought or an algorithm (not that I have anything against algorithms).
Perhaps a quick apology to anyone whose drawing I slighted – as Warhol said, “I am a deeply superficial person.”
What a fascinating analysis! Can’t tell you if you’re right or wrong yet, but I’m loving your interpretations. Since you’re an artist yourself, I like hearing your thoughts!
You know, actually, I’m torn between 8 & 7 now after looking at them again!
I’m going to guess tree 5. It looks like your style.
*evil cartoon laugh* bwahahaha!
Clever assessment Cousin Ted, “drawn by a committee” Love it!.
You however are forgetting two important details. Carol did not go to art school and Tree # 5 was definitely drawn by someone with some sort of formal training. Also? Unless Super Babby is already in Kindergarten Carol probably does not have access to a full box of Crayolas at her disposal. Therefore tree #5 was drawn by someone with school aged children.
I do however thank you for the tip about Carol being a south paw. Most excellent.
I’m impressed that you guys can recognize a left handed drawing from a right handed one. That didn’t even occur to me.
Hmmmm… Wow, I really don’t know! I would guess #5 or #7 as well, but admittedly, I’ve been influenced by the opinions/analyses of others.
Can’t wait to hear the real answer!
I am putting *all* my chips on #1 (this was my decision last night when there were no comments yet, and even after reading Ted’s assessment I still think it is #1).
I remember being impressed by your laissez-faire use of lines. #5 looks too deliberate to be Carol-esque, but I’m basing my interpretation on your artistry from years ago, and I suppose it may have changed 😛
Husband agrees with Ted: #5.
This is so much fun! I can’t wait to reveal the answer!

Yep, I’m awesome. I was almost sure #1 was yours before I even scrolled down to see the others, and then after I did see the other trees I *KNEW* 1 was yours. I am THAT awesome 😛
