So, Babby has gained 180 grams this past week, which is an improvement, but the doc would rather he be gaining 250 g per week. She says that if he hasn’t gained a total of one kilogram between the two and three month marks, he needs to come in again and she will refer him to a paediatric specialist. She also increased his Zantac dose.
We’ll let you know how that pans out…
In other news, he can roll himself from his back to his side and is working heavily on trying to complete the roll. He also thinks that kicking at a rattle hanging on his infant seat is hilarious.
I really wish a friend of mine had your GP. Her baby did not gain any weight or grow in height for TWO SOLID MONTHS, and the GP just shrugged and said “guess he’s just small for his age”.
Doctors, I dunno. Seems like they’re always either underreacting or overreacting.
Yes, the good thing about her being incredibly young and inexperienced is that she’s not jaded – all she knows is what the books say, and boy, she follows them! I’m relieved that she would consider referring to a pediatrician, though, if this doesn’t resolve- tells me she’s not going to just muck about with her books for months while my baby shrinks.
I pointed out Babby to Violet and said, “Look at that happy baby!” And she said, “Yeah. Where’s the Mommy?” and I said, “Taking the picture, honey.”
Glad to hear your GP is taking such a pro-active approach!
Yes, the Mommy is always taking the picture. Even most of the pictures we have of me with Babby I have taken myself, holding my arm out and pointing the camera in my general direction. I have even less video.
PS-whoops, sorry about the name thing. Wasn’t thinking.
Meh. We’ll probably start using it eventually. Waiting for PH to feel comfortable.
Ditto the sisters: I’m glad your doctor is paying attention and keeping on top of things.
Adorable picture!
What a beautiful smile. Great picture.
He certainly looks like a happy, well little chap (I guess you don’t take many pictures when he’s screaming and miserable) and he is flying through the milestones. It’s good to check the weight-gain thing, but on the other hand babies DO vary.
Yeah, the screaming isn’t as photogenic :-p
I have no concept of grams. Isn’t that unfortunate?
But I love that he loves kicking his rattle. Just wait until he can grab it!
🙂
Translated: The doc wants him to gain about 2 pounds between the 2 and 3 month marks, or about 8-9 ounces a week. That week, he gained about 6 ounces.
Maybe you should start feeding him muscle milk to bulk up.
Kidding.
That’s a great smile!
Yay for happy babby!
🙂 He’s pretty darn cute. Hope he’s having more GOOD days and less of those crazy ones…
Any updates on the weight gain? I bet all that being awake and screaming and goggling at the world eats up an awful lot of calories!
No updates yet – we don’t have a scale sensitive enough at home. The Wii is supposed to be, but we have found his Wii weight to be inaccurate in the past… May pop into the doctor’s office to use the scale this week or may wait until next week when he has his shots…
