Your FIL seems to be one of those children talked about in the article. Honestly, it’s a little late to be questioning the decision to have kids, and he needs to butt out and respect the choice of you and PH. This strikes me as odd coming from a man who had copious amount of children and now as a result has a multitude of grandkids…He scared of buying another Christmas gift?

Oh, I don’t think he means to scare us. Knowing him, he probably thinks of this as a positive article…
I didn’t think it was at all negative. I thought it was freakin’ hilarious. And also very true.
Michael agreed, when I read it to him. The whole idea that “joy” and “happiness” are different things – spot on.
It makes total sense, and I remember citing that research years ago in an LJ post. Life satisfaction not the same as happiness.
