…you’re scraping ice off of your car on a frosty subzero morning and you get the following helpful advice from a neighbour.
“Just pour a bottle of water onto the car, that’ll melt right away.”
…
…
I tried to explain why that might not be a good idea, but she just insisted, “no, it totally works!”
Anyone who assumes Canadians know how to handle cold weather has not been to Vancouver.
One would also think that people who live in Buffalo, NY would know not to stick their hands into a snowblower that is ON, but that is not true either.
HAHAHAHA! Oh, dear.
Sticking hands into a running snowblower? Ouch. I think people fron Vancouver in general know how to handle snow and harsh weather, it comes from experience.
But Vancouverites don’t have that experience. The average Vancouverite really doesn’t know how to handle snow and ice. They sometimes think they do, but they don’t. Not by Atlantic Canada standards!
An English cousin, visiting one winter, gave me exactly the same advice re: my icy windshield, but one better: he suggested pouring boiling water. I know the glass is specially treated, but I still had vision of wildly shattered glass flying around my driveway.
We did not follow his helpful suggestion…
That’s why hot(ish) or at least lukewarm water straight from the tap is better than a boiling kettle. But yeah, it does work.
Hot water is an even worse idea than lukewarm water! But the whole idea is hilariously crazy. It’s freezing outside! Let’s pour water on the car!
