In celebration of Postcards From Oblivion getting her blog up and running again, I am posting a video I made as a response to her post wherein she revealed the secret contents of her fridge.
Now you, too, can marvel at the secrets within my cold food storage compartment. Laugh! Cry! Judge!
Yes, I’m totally judging you for the Baconnaise…I’m judging you to be freaking awesome! How have I never seen that in a grocery store? Clearly I’m not looking hard enough.
It was somewhat disappointing. More smokey than actually bacon flavoured.
Must. Find. Baconnaise! What a fabulous product!
I love that you did this. I also love that you had a roast chicken from the store just like we had in our fridge when I shot mine. I think it’s hilarious that PH has been pouring your Coke dregs from bottle to bottle. I wonder if you’ve been drinking 3 year old soda and not knowing it?
Also glad the breast milk is no longer pink. Win! Thanks for playing along.
Doesn`t everyone have that roast chicken? :-p
Hey! You’re still using that hand pump I gave ya! I figured you’d have upgraded to something scary looking and electric by now.
Glad it’s useful to you (it sure wasn’t for me).
Babby’s so darn cute!
Yes, I am! One of the many, many things you have sent me which recieve daily use. I totally owe you for most of my babby inventory. What would I have done without you? Your boxes alone probably brought me more useful things than two baby showers!
However, I do admit that a new pump is on my wishlist. PH and I were discussing it tonight. Have been hemming and hawing between an electric pump and a slightly stronger hand pump. I can never get more than two or three ounces at a time out with this little one, which is turning into a problem when I spend eight hours at work and can only get a fraction of my milk out. So I have been dreaming of a better pump with my new paycheck, assuming that we couldn’t afford ANY new pump.
Turns out I had been assuming that any electric pump was way out of our price range, so when I talked about wanting a new one with my first paycheck, I just meant a better manual. PH had been assuming that the only reason I hadn’t run out and bought an Avena or Medela hand held was that I was saving up for an electric…
I think you can get battery operated ones that are less expensive than the electric ones. That being said, a friend of mine has a manual pump that she’s been using to pump for her son almost exclusively (he has latch issues). Her friend donated a very expensive electric one to her, and after using it a couple of times, she says she prefers the manual one. Maybe try to rent one before you buy one, just to see how you like it? (although, generally the ones that you rent are of much better quality than the ones that you can buy for personal use).
I would echo the “try before you buy” method on the electric pump… when Isaac was born I rushed out and bought the double-barreled Aveda Pump ‘N Style because I assumed I’d still be BFing when I went back to work.
I spent $300 on that pump and could never get more than a couple ounces per boob with it. I loaned it to my SIL and she didn’t get good results, either.
Whereas a friend of mine had to pump exclusively and with her little battery pump was able to get freakin’ gallons at a time.
Save the money, most drugstores have an electric pump rental program (Pharmasaves out here do, for example). If it works for you, totally worth the money to buy one – but if it doesn’t, you’ve just saved yourself lots of money & aggravation.
Unfortunately, reading this article:
http://mythnomore.blogspot.com/2011/08/why-you-shouldnt-buy-sell-or-borrow.html
Put me off EVER sharing an electric breast pump with anyone.
I think I’ll try another manual, or possibly splurge on a small battery operated one.
Yeah, it’s my experience that they only rent the closed system ones, which run around $1000 apiece. The ones they sell are around $300, but as stated in the article are NOT a closed system.
Awwwww! I tried to send you items that I found most useful. (Except the pump. I seem to be non-pumpable. Is that a word?) I’m really glad they’re turning out to be useful for you, as well. I like to see them “go to a good home”.
I will agree with Grace and hodgepodge to look into renting an electric pump before buying. Or even instead of buying. I know our local cloth diaper/natural baby stores have monthly rental programs for pumps, and it sounds like other stores might too. Lots of options! Good luck!
1. I LOVE looking inside people’s refrigerators! Thank you
2. Much like your offspring, my cat tries to climb into the fridge when I open the door.
One time, when he was a kitten, Inexplicably Loved Cat jumped into the fridge when PH opened it, grabbed a hunk of gouda, and took off down the hall. By the time we caught up with him, he had removed the cellophane and eaten the entire hunk of cheese.
He weight about four pounds at the time.
One time my family was sitting on the couch watching TV (we’re so American) when we heard a muffled meowing coming from the kitchen. Turns out our orange tabby Oliver had gotten himself shut inside the fridge. Good one.
