I have to fly from Vancouver to Halifax with Babby next Tuesday.
I’m scared.
Keep in mind:
This kid doesn’t sleep.
He is very active.
He likes to scream.
Perfect Husband won’t be with us – he’s joining us on the 24th. So I am doing this on my own.
This is going to be a painful experience, isn’t it?
having flown with infants and kids to Halifax too many times to count, remember, it will eventually be over. The breast is a lifesaver. Bring a blanket that makes you comfortable, not to hide, but the drafts are a little chilly when you have your boobs exposed.
Bring earplugs. Not for yourself, but to share with your neighbour.
It’s usually the coming down of the plane that is most painful pressure changes, so at least that’s at the end. Ask the flight attendant for a warm towel. It can help babies ears.
I hope everyone you encounter sees you traveling by yourself with a little one and cuts you some slack. It is the holidays afterall!
I really really hope I get stuck sitting next to a baby person.
Can you ask the doctor about childrens’ Dramamine, or something that will knock him out? I don’t have kids yet so don’t shoot me if this is age inappropriate.
I’ve seen doctors so much about the screaming, I’m worried they’ll think I’m making up the whole “9 hour flight” thing just to drug this kid!
Lol!
That would be stressful! Here’s hoping it turns out that flying at high altitudes is the magical thing that makes him calm, sleepy, and content.
Meh. Last year, Frances SCREAMED from Calgary to Edmonton (after a long flight FROM Maui). We were THOSE people. It sucks, but we survived…. *shrug*
I’m totally talking out of my ass because I’ve never flown with a kid in tow, but speaking as someone who really finds takeoffs and landings painful, maybe a dose of Advil or Tylenol beforehand just to take the edge off would be kind?
Good luck and godspeed.
I totally get your fear. I’d be anxious, too (and, in fact, was when I flew with my babies). But, in the end, it’s only a few hours for one day and you will both get through it. Other passengers will understand. It will be okay.
Maybe he’ll surprise you and be an angel?
if you sit near the back where it’s loud with engine noise then it may calm him, and if it doesn’t then the white noise may wash out his crying…. and if neither happen, then WHO CARES!!! you paid just as much for your ticket as everyone else! safe travels.
Hmmmm. Gravol or Rescue Rehab (is that safe for babies??)
Either way, he’s a baby and if people can’t deal with that, too bad.
Hmm, Rescue Remedy usually has brandy in it (and they think it’s the herbs that calm people down!)
They make baby Benadryl which knocks them out. If you do try it, test it out at home first. Some babies sleep very well with it and others, oh like a certain Chicken I know, GET MORE HYPER and sleep less.
Your boob is your friend. Take it out whenever Babby makes a sound.
Did I really just say “Rescue Rehab”??? Wow. That’s one of my programs. I meant Rescue Remedy as you corrected me. LOL
The pet-safe one doesn’t have alcohol in it (the human version does) – you can still use the human version on large dogs, but it’s not recommended for small dogs of course. You’re right about the herbs though. The important ingredients are: Impatiens (for mental stress and tension), Clematis (for disorientation) Rock Rose (for terror and panic), Cherry Plum (for desperation) and Star of Bethlehem (for shock).
So, perhaps the pet-safe version is safe for babies? But then again, my parents used to give us a touch of whiskey to help us sleep.
